YOKOSUKA, JAPAN (May 22, 2012) – Sailors from Deck department aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) align a pelican hook to an anchor chain during a Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) test. INSURV is a process established by Congress in 1868 to ensure ships in the Navy are properly equipped, reliable and mission-ready. George Washington recently completed a six-month, routine-maintenance period and is currently pier side in Yokosuka, Japan making preparations to return to sea.
